Solid Snake's Age
Solid Snake, the main character of the Metal Gear series, had never divulged his actual age in the games. So I thought I'd try and make an estimate based on the information we do know about him. Naturally, Solidus and Liquid would be the same age. First, the most commonly known facts. Snake was born in the 1970's, as a result of the "Les Enfants Terribles" Project. And his profile stated that during the Shadow Moses Island Incident of 2005, Snake was in his 30's. A 1976 birth would mean age 29 at 2005, hence the year must be prior. That narrows down the birth year to 1970 ~ 1975. Next the Gulf War of 1991, Snake was said to have participated the war in his 10's. A 1971 birth would mean age 20 at 1991, hence the year must be later. So the birth year is narrowed down yet again to 1972 ~ 1975. With the birth year between 1972 and 1975, we can make the following estimates: 1995 - Outer Heaven Crisis : 20 ~ 23 years old. 1999 - Zanzibarland Uprising : 24 ~ 27 years old. 2005 - Shadow Moses Island Incident : 30 ~ 33 years old. 2007 - USS Discovery Sinking : 32 ~ 35 years old. 2009 - Big Shell Incident : 34 ~ 37 years old. So the oldest Snake can be during MGS2 Plant Chapter would be 37 years old. Seems about right. Not too young, nor too old. And it doesn't conflict with the 30's profile during Shadow Moses Island. Now, let's also add in information from Metal Gear Ghost Babel. Ghost Babel is a side story and arguably not a part of the main Metal Gear time line, so the following is just for analyzing purposes, and not necessary definite like the above equation. Depending on what you choose to believe. In Ghost Babel, Solid Snake is stated as being 30 years old. Ghost Babel is set 7 years after the Outer Heaven Crisis, which would make the year 2002. With Snake being 30 years old at 2002, we can calculate the following: 1995 - Outer Heaven Crisis : 23 years old. 1999 - Zanzibarland Uprising : 27 years old. 2002 - Ghost Babel : 30 years old. 2005 - Shadow Moses Island Incident : 33 years old. 2007 - USS Discovery Sinking : 35 years old. 2009 - Big Shell Incident : 37 years old. We now know the age of Solid Snake. Or if we don't consider Ghost Babel as a part of the main time line, we at least have an approximate age estimate. Mission accomplished. 6.20.2002
